Stimulus Package Announced to Boost Economy

PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government of Cambodia has launched this Thursday a stimulus programme to boost economic recovery in the post-pandemic period of Covid-19, which has seen the world’s economy affected by the virus.

The stimulus programme was named the “Strategic Framework and Programmes for Economic Recovery in the Context of Living with COVID-19 in a New Normal 2021-2023”

The launching ceremony was held virtually under the presidency of H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, with the participation of leaders and representatives of relevant ministries and institutions, embassies, development partners, civil society organisations, business associations, and the private sector.

It aims to boost opportunities both inside and outside the country to foster the national economy with a highly competitive and diversified base, as well as enhance the well-being of Cambodian people in a new normal.

The document is divided into two sections: the strategic framework, which is to define specific strategies for each sector or element in key areas, and the programmes for economic recovery, which is to set out a short-term action plan with detailed and sharp policy measures to implement and solve key structural problems in each sector or sub-sector for 2021-2023. Which with the new Covid variant looming large will certainly be an ongoing challenge.

In a press release issued after the launching ceremony, the ministry underlined that fruitful and effective implementation of Strategic Framework and Programmes will require close cooperation and active participation of all stakeholders, through direct implementation, supports and facilitation provided.
